HYDROMINE project meeting
The HYDROMINE consortium meeting took place on May 13, 2026. During the event, the consortium members presented the work completed in the last months of the project and plan the next steps.
The meeting was split into different thematic areas and work packages, which complemented and supported each other.
WUST presented preliminary results on the hydraulic optimization of the PAT unit. To this end, various rotor geometries and designs were examined using CFD analyses. This was done for both pump and turbine mode. In addition, initial analyses of the static and dynamic design of the hydraulic system were conducted.
UP has conducted initial geotechnical studies on selected sites in Romania. Therefore, 3D geotechnical and numerical models were created. Soil samples were also collected at the planned site of the demonstration project in Poland. The samples were then analyzed in the laboratory to identify any potential effects on the pipeline system’s materials.
CUT evaluated three different materials for the manufacture of piping. These included one fossil-based HDPE and two bio-based HDPEs. For the evaluation, all three materials were extruded on a laboratory scale, and test specimens were produced for standardized material testing. One of the bio-based HDPEs met all the requirements for use as a piping material.
Fraunhofer IWU presented the fundamentals of the environmental assessment of the piping system. Therefore, the procedure and methodology were developed, and the scope of the study was defined. Finally, an initial flow diagram for the LCA of the bio-based HDPE piping system - from material production to end-of-life strategies - was presented.
The next consortium meeting will take place in September 2026 at the Technical University of Crete in Chania.
